We don’t even know how strong we are until we are forced to bring that hidden strength forward. - Isabel Allende
Feeling disconnected from your partner?
Feeling a sense of disconnect within your relationship may happen. You’ve made great changes in your life, but sometimes it can be difficult for your partner to accept those changes. It is best to acknowledge these feelings and work together to build the connection again. Learning how to communicate this with your partner is one of the benefits of therapy.
Feeling isolated?
Recovering from a drug or alcohol addiction can feel isolating. Do others really get it? Do they judge you? Are they ever going to trust you again? I’m sure these are some of the questions that you ask yourself, but with time and acceptance you will feel less alone and more confident in who you are.
Feeling embarrassed or ashamed?
These feelings can sneak up on you and try to ruin your recovery! When feelings of anxiety, shame, or embarrassment come up, pay attention to what you are telling yourself. Many times how we speak to ourselves can make all the difference. Be kind!
